Gilbert and Goode were delighted to receive the Innovation Award at this years Constructing Excellence South West Awards, held on Thursday night at Aerospace Bristol. The award recognises the outstanding achievement of the Polgrean Project Team, who overcame unprecedented mining challenges to deliver 60 new affordable homes for group partners Ocean Housing.

The Polgrean Project involved the redevelopment of a former St Blazey housing estate, into a modern and sustainable community. However, the project faced a serious setback when ground issues were discovered, threatening to derail the build program. The project team, along with specialist contractors and designers came up with an innovative solution: to build a subterranean bridge that would span the affected area assuring the ground. This measure ensured the project could continue safely and efficiently.

The Innovation Award celebrates the creativity, adaptability and resilience of the project team, as well as the collaboration between Gilbert and Goode, Ocean Housing, contractors, designers and other partners. The award also showcases the positive impact of the project on the local community, providing high-quality and affordable homes for local people.

Gordon Innes, Managing Director of Gilbert and Goode, said: “We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award, which reflects our commitment to innovation and excellence in construction. I would like to thank our amazing Polgrean Project Team, as well as our contractors, designers and group partners, for their hard work and dedication to this project. We are proud to be delivering 60 new homes for Ocean Housing and their residents, and to have contributed to the regeneration of Polgrean Place.”

The Constructing Excellence South West Awards are organised by Constructing Excellence South West (CESW), a not-for-profit organisation that aims to improve the performance and sustainability of the construction industry in the region. The awards ceremony took place on Thursday at Aerospace Bristol, under the iconic Concord aircraft. Gilbert and Goode was among many impressive projects that were nominated and awarded in various categories.

Gordon Innes added: “We are thrilled to have celebrated the outstanding achievements of all the nominees and winners at this year’s awards, all of which have showcased excellence in their projects and have proven that our build environment across the region is forward-looking. It was a wonderful evening under Concorde, and we are proud to belong to such a vibrant and dynamic industry.”
