Prince Charles House

Prince Charles House, St Austell

We have recently completed building 31 extra-care apartments in St Austell, Cornwall, with a BREEAM predicted rating of 'Outstanding', using the latest green technology and innovative design to set new standards of accommodation for older residents.

This building, which is has been built for Ocean Housing in Partnership with Cornwall Council, is the only eco-communities project  in the UK and has been designed to showcase examples of low carbon living in the area through the use of green technologies.

The project has extremely high sustainability targets, from the design and construction of the building right through to helping residents enjoy a greener lifestyle. Prince Charles House will produce 80% less CO2 than a typical building and generate 70% of the energy it uses on site. We have been working with the Eden Project and the Sensory Trust on elements of the scheme and have developed a website which incorporated a live web cam and has information that you may find interesting.

We are equally delighted that Cornwall College was a partner on this scheme, enabling us to continue our support for skills development through apprenticeships, training, research and case studies during the project.

Gilbert and Goode won a Considerate Constructors Gold Award for this project.
